I trained and worked as a Design Engineer for many years. Began making pots in 1965. Left engineering to train as an teacher at Neville's Cross College, Durham. Taught art and craft pottery at a comprehensive school in Gateshead. Left full time teaching to work as a self employed potter in my own studio workshop at Washington Arts Centre for 20years. Was a founder member of the Northern Potters Asso.. Now work from home studio making one off smoke decorated pots. Exhibited extensively over the years.
A chronology 1950 Left school and began an apprenticship as a draughtsman design engineer. 1956 National service, RAF. 1958 Returned to engineering design after service. 1960 Appointed chairman of Washington Arts Group, and exhibited drawings with Northern Arts Federation. 1972 Left engineering and attended Neville's Cross Teacher Training College, Durham, 3yr course to become an art teacher. 1975 Taught art at Highfield comprehensive school, Gateshead. 1977 Took a pottery studio at Washington Arts Centre. Self employed potter. Also taught pottery for local education authority and Sunderland Art College. Evening classes and summer weekend courses. 1978 One man pottery show, Washington Arts Centre Gallery 1991 Built own pottery studio at home. Developed new glazes and design techniques. Left Washington Arts Centre to work at home. 1992 Ceramic review magazine. Article May-June issue.
